Because it is often not detected until a late stage, chronic cases are harder to treat than the acute ones. The names given to the different types of leukemia are descriptive of these classifications. In the four most common types, two are chronic and two are acute; two affect the lymphocytes, and two affect the granulocytes or monocytes. These four types will now be discussed in more detail.
