Local material, such as thatch from grass or banana leaves can also be used, but it can harbour pests and diseases therefore needing frequent replacement. As seedlings grow older, they need more light. Install the shade net in a way that it can easily and gradually be removed, rather than moving the seedlings to a lighter area.
