The depth/width (dlw) ratio of a defocused Iaser weid with a weid pool shape similar to a GTA weid increased by >200% in a zone where 77ppm Se had been added. Smaller increases were observed in Se-doped zones for a moderately defocused e/ectron beam weid with a higher dlw ratio in undoped base meta/. When Iaser or electron beam weid penetration was by a keyhole mechanism, no change in d/w ratio occurred in Se-doped zones.
