They are mythological creatures, so there’s creative freedom on so many levels. What materials did you use to make these pieces of art? For both illustrations, I used Photoshop CS2 and Wacom Intuos3. Is there a story behind your pieces? The Dragon King Ao-Kuang is my representation of the king of dragons. I tried to portray how this magnificent creature would move in the skies he rules. Dragon Tribes: The Calling was a personal work. I imagined how a tribe would live among dragons. They would be mountain people, for sure.
These are both series in my book Monsters! that I completed for my senior thesis while I was in school. They both have a legend behind them. The Ryujin is a Japanese water god and the Dragon of Marduk is a hybrid dragon that guards the entrance to a Babylonian tomb. Do your dragons incorporate qualities of other animals? The Dragon of Marduk, most certainly! He has a chameleon or lizardlike head and cheeks, and lion front paws with bird back legs. A scorpion tail completes his crazy look. What personality traits do your dragons possess?
