Ronald Gebauer untersucht in einem ersten Schritt historisch-soziologisch die Auffassung, dass Arbeit der Schlüssel zur Lösung des Armutsproblems in modernen Gesellschaften ist. In einem weiteren Schritt werden die theoretischen Grundlagen des Armutsfallentheorems diskutiert. Wie verhält es sich aber nun mit dem Realitätsgehalt des Armutsfallentheorems? Die meisten empirischen Untersuchungen belegen, dass Sozialleistungsbezug überwiegend kurzfristiger Natur ist. Ausgehend von diesen Ergebnissen wird eine eigene Datenauswertung des Sozio-ökonomischen Panels (Sozialhilfe) vorgestellt.
