A sustainable amount of research has been devoted to analyzing the productivity (or throughput) of production systems (see, for instance, recent review [9], monographs [10–13], and papers [14–19]). More complex systems, including assembly/disassembly [20,21], rework loops [22,23], parallel lanes [24], split and merge layout [25,26], closed lines [27], multiple products [28], multiple failure models [29], and systems with multiple complex operations [30], and so on, have been studied as well.
The repair process will affect product quality behaviors and also yield to different failure rates downstream, which will lead to productivity variation. Such complexity, as a result of the combination of quality propagation and repairing issues, makes the system performance difficult to evaluate.
